Breaking news: Avril Lavigne’s influence reaches further than the ability to make fifteen-year-old girls wear ties. Her divorce with now ex-husband Deryck Whibley seems to have inspired many of the songs off Sum 41’s latest album, Screaming Bloody Murder. Wonder if she’ll be reimbursed.

Most of the lyrics reflect a bitter tone after a love gone sour. In What Am I to Say, Whibley sings, “How could you be the better part of me, when we’re only half of what we used to be.” Similarly, on Over Now, he states: “What do I have to do, was supposed to grow old with you, but that ain’t gonna happen” …ouch.

The Sum 41 frontman denies that his divorce inspired the lyrics, but we think it’s pretty obvious. What’s your opinion?
