Kanye West blew the top off of this year’s Coachella Music Festival last night.

Backed by an unbelievably elaborate set design, Ye performed everything from classic Late Registration cuts to 808s and Heartbreak favorites to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy highlights for his near 2 hour closing set last night.

Sometime late Friday night, Yeezy dropped the music video for his smash brand new smash hit “All Of The Lights.” The track features a whole lot of flashing lights, Kanye, Kid Cudi, and Rihanna (looking absolutely amazing!). The clip was directed by acclaimed video director Hype Williams. Watch it below.

10. Dr. Dre – Detox – Release: February

After waiting year, after year, after year for Dr. Dre’s return to the mic, it looks like we’ll finally be hearing his much anticipated album Detox in early 2011. In recent interviews, Dre has gone on the record saying that Detox is an “inspired” album. We’re not entirely sure what to make of that, but if lead single “Kush” is a sign of what to expect, we’ll be hearing ample amounts of Dre’s signature bass heavy west coast hip-hop on Detox.

9. The Strokes – TBA – Release: Spring

It was nearly 10 years ago that The Strokes roared out of the gates and took the Rock world by storm with their debut album Is This It. Fast forward to today and The Strokes career arc hasn’t been quite as promising as many would have hoped. But after a number of album delays, The Strokes look like they’ve finally gotten it together for their upcoming album. Lead singer Julian Casablancas Tweeted in November that the record is complete and to expect it early this year.

8. Adele – 21 – Release: January 24

After releasing her debut album 19 at the age of 19, Adele is back two years later with a new album 21 (Are you seeing a trend here?). So far, the extra 2 years of maturity seem to be helping. The album’s lead single “Rolling In The Deep” is a hauntingly beautiful song, and if 21 is full of tracks like it, Adele will have no problem meeting our lofty expectations.

7. Lil’ Wayne – The Carter IV – Release: TBA

After having 9 months of prison time to stir his creative juices, Lil’ Wayne looks poised to drop the latest edition in his The Carter series, The Carter IV, sometime in early 2011. Despite the fact that Wayne is one of the most prolific rap artists alive today, he tends to save his best material for his Carter albums. Here’s hoping that The Carter IV doesn’t buck that tradition.

6. Kanye West & Jay-Z – Watch The Throne – Release: TBA

What’s better than one multi-platinum hip-hop recording artist? Well two of course!Kanye West and Jay-Z have hip-hop fans wondering what to expect from their massive upcoming collaboration album Watch The Throne. Earlier this week, the album’s lead single “H.A.M.” made it’s way to the web, which leads us to believe we’ll be hearing more of the album in the near future.

5. Blink-182 – TBA – Release: TBA

For anybody that grew up in the 90s, Blink-182 is more than a band, they’re like friends. Blink’s blend of pop-punk melancholy was the soundtrack to adolescence for kids of many ages. For anyone even vaguely familiar, this comeback record comes with some heavy nostalgia. No word yet as to whether or not the band will change their classic sound, but we’ll definitely be listening to find out. There’s still no release date or official title yet, but that’s not stopping us from getting excited.

4. Beyonce – TBA – Release: TBA

After solidifying I Am… Sasha Fierce as a classic album with hits like “Single Ladies” and “Halo,” Beyonce is set to return in 2011 with her next record. It’s hard to imagine her improving upon her last effort, but album producer Sean Garret claims the two are taking the album “to a whole other level.” We’ll see how that turns out, but if it measures anywhere close to the last we’ll be happy.

3. Avril Lavigne – Goodbye Lullaby – March 8

It’s been some time since we’ve heard anything from “Complicated” singer, Avril Lavigne. In the past few years, Avril’s made plenty of tabloid headlines, but nothing in the form of new music. Maybe that’s why her upcoming “Goodbye Lullaby” album is so heavily anticipated. The album’s lead single “What The Hell” premiered on New Year’s Eve, and features a more mature sounding Avril. We’ll wait and see if Avril’s loyal fans dig it.

2. Britney Spears – TBA – Release: Spring

Over the past decade, Britney Spears has gone from the high of her early multi-platinum albums to the infamous low of shaving her head off in front of the paparazzi. But it looks like Brit is on her way back to the top in 2011 with one of the most anticipated albums of the year. Talk about a career rollercoaster!

Just a few days back, Brit released the first single off of her upcoming comeback album, entitled “Hold It Against Me.” The song proceeded to break radio play records and hit #1 on iTunes the first day of release. It’s tough to doubt Brit’s rise back to the top at this point.

1. Lady Gaga – Born This Way – Release: May 23

After only two albums, Lady Gaga has become arguably the biggest pop-star in the world. Whether you love her or hate her, “Born This Way” is surely one of the most anticipated albums of 2011.

Just recently, Gaga herself proclaimed that “Born This Way” will be “the album of the decade.” That’s a pretty lofty statement given that we’ve barely begun this decade. But despite what Gaga thinks about it, the real judgement comes from her fans. Only time will tell how Gaga’s Little Monster fans will react to “Born This Way.” The debate begins February 13th with the release of the album’s first single.

The first single, “H.A.M.,” from the upcoming Kanye West and Jay-Z collaboration album Watch The Throne hit the web late last night.

For a minute here, lemme try and break this hip-hop all-star collaboration down mathematically. If my numbers are correct, Jay-Z’s record sales sit at over 50 million for his career. Add that to Kanye’s total of nearly 20 million and you’ve got yourself 70 million or so reasons to be EXTREMELY excited for Watch The Throne.

The first single “H.A.M.” is just the right thing to wet your appetite for the album that is expected to drop sometime around March.

It’s also soundtracked by a bunch of new Kanye tracks that will be included on his upcoming My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album, due out November 22nd. The “Erase Me” video seems like a tribute to the rock ages of the past. It begins inside the trailer of a fake 1970s-looking rock band lead by Kid Cudi, who’s dressed to look like a reincarnation of Jimi Hendrix. Even with wigs on, you’ll probably recognize his band mates; they’re played by famous actors Christopher Mintz-Plasse, who you probably know better by the name “McLovin,” and Clark Duke, of Hot Tub Time Machine fame.

After giving a bit of an interview to the reporter in the trailer — in their best fake English accents, no less — the guys take the stage for a performance of “Erase Me.” Kanye West makes a cameo too, decked out in so much gold he looks like King Midas, himself.

The whole thing is a throwback to the golden age of rock music. And even though the song might not be on par with The Stones or Zeppelin, the throwback look is great for a laugh.

The MTV VMAs have come and gone for 2010. It was a show filled with star studded performers and awards. And although it may not have had the WOW moments of year’s past (Kanye, Taylor anybody?), there was still enough material to make for some pretty good water cooler discussion. So if you missed any of the action, we’ve got the low down to get you up to speed.

The show opened with a performance from Eminem. Playing his smash hits “Not Afraid” and “Love the Way You Lie,” Eminem did his part to get the party started. For the latter song, he was joined on stage by Rihanna, and together they got the crowd in a party mood. Check it out below.

Then came time for host Chelsea Handler to take the reigns. It started with a backstage skit that featured a series of butt slaps from the likes of Lil’ Jon, Flo-Rida, and even Lindsay Lohan, who was able to turn her well documented issues–including her recent prison stint–into a pretty funny bit.

After the skit aired, Chelsea took the stage in a Lady Gaga inspired costume, dropped some jokes on some attendees, including everyone from the cast of the Jersey Shore to Justin Bieber.

Ellen Degeneres showed up to present the first award. Not unexpectedly, Lady Gaga took home the Moonman for Best Female Video. Here’s a hint, this wasn’t the last time she got up on stage.

Next up was the award for Best Rock Video. The guys from Jackass took the stage to promote their upcoming film, and after a bit of goofing around, they let us know 30 Seconds to Mars won the award. Frontman Jared Leto, a guy who literally doesn’t seem to age, gave a short but sweet acceptance speech, thanking the band’s fans.

After that, it was on to Kim Kardashian backstage for a lead in to Justin Bieber’s performance. The teenage phenom took the stage outside of the Nokia Theater and wowed the crowd with a number of his famous hits and surprisingly solid dance moves. Despite all the dancing, his vocals stayed remarkably solid, which was enough for more than a few Twitterers to claim that he was lip synching. We’ve got our own opinions on that, but you’ll have be the judge on this one. He finished off with a drum solo. That part was definitely legit.

Back inside the show went on with house DJ Deadmau5 keeping the mood high with his spins. Ke$ha and Trey Songz introduced Usher, who put on a solid stage production. It’s a good thing Justin Bieber was watching his musical mentor perform because Usher’s definitely done this before, and it shows.

Presenters Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj made their way on stage to the delight of all the males in the audience. The two of them joked around about finding a man at the VMAs–something Katy knows too well after nabbing her husband Russell Brand at last year’s awards. Eminem took the award for Best Male Video, but had sadly already hopped on a plane for New York and was unable to accept it.

After some tunes from Deadmau5 and an auto-tuned comedy bit by the host, it was time for Florence + The Machine to hit the stage. If you weren’t aware of Florence + The Machine before, you should definitely take notice now. Lead singer Florence Welch is immensely talented, which she proved with her rendition of “Dog Days Are Over,” definitely one of the great performances of the night. After, Travie McCoy lead into the commercial break by rapping a verse from his hit “Billionaire.”

To the delight of the many ‘Gleeks’ in the audience, the cast of Glee came out to present the award for Best Pop Video. Guess what, Lady Gaga won again. We all saw that coming.

And now for a moment that you’re sure to hear about more than once, Taylor Swift performed a new song “You’re Still An Innocent” live. Before the track, clips flashed from the infamous Kanye-gate incident last year. She sang about innocence and understanding. Walking around on stage in her bare feet, it sounded like she had genuinely forgiven the rapper for the incident. After some more comedy, the next performance on deck was courtesy of Drake, Mary J. Blige, and Swizz Beatz. They were definitely going for an old fashioned image, with tuxedos and apparel that looked like it came straight out of the 1920s. All that was missing was the swing dancing and prohibition.

Shortly after, Chelsea Handler was back on stage, only to be joined by the Jersey Shore cast, who happened to be in a hot tub. Go figure. She hopped in with them, dress and all.

Next came the presentation of Best Hip Hop Video. Eminem took this one down too, but again couldn’t be in house to accept.

After a few side bits, the next performance was on deck, and it was a real triple threat. B.o.B. teamed up with both Bruno Mars and Hayley Williams for a medley. They went through tracks “Beautiful Girls” and “Airplanes,” with Hayley Williams closing it out with “The Only Exception.” It was a solid performance and really showed off the talents of both Bruno Mars and Hayley Williams. The star status of all three artists is sure to keep rising as a result. Leading into the commercial break, Robyn put on a very energetic performance of her hit “Dancing On My Own.” Even though she had only 30 seconds or so to work with, she showed off her talent and energy. The performance cemented her status as one of the most underrated pop stars in the world.

The award for Best New Artist was next, which went to Justin Bieber. Ok maybe he wasn’t as new as some of the other artists, but you can’t doubt his popularity. In a bit of an awkward moment, Justin couldn’t seem to figure out how to make his way up to the stage. Once he figured it out, he got his acceptance speech out of the way.

Next, a performance by Linkin Park outside the Griffin Observatory high above Los Angeles. The setting helped make the performance a memorable one as they sang their new song “Catalyst.”

After the performance, the cameras went back inside the Nokia Theatre. Cher emerged to present the most important award of the night, Video Of The Year. The prestigious award went to Lady Gaga again, who made her way up on stage. With what’s sure to be a headline for some time to come, she was dressed in a meat dress. Yes, you read that right. A meat dress. PETA definitely won’t be happy.

After asking Cher to “hold her meat purse,” Gaga went into her acceptance speech. As promised, she revealed the title of her new album, which she confirmed to be “Born This Way.” After letting the crowd know of the name, she burst into song, singing the chorus of the title track off the album. It was a moment of genuine emotion and raw talent. She’s so talented that we might even let the meat dress slide this time.

For the finale of the night, Kanye West emerged in a bright red suit. He took his place in the center of the stage over top of his drum machine, and proceeded to crank out an epic bassline. He busted out a new song titled “Runaway” which is sure to be a hit, off his new album due in November. In it, Kanye proposes a toast to the “douche bags,” “a–holes,” and “scumbags.” He was joined onstage by Pusha T from Clipse for a guest verse to top off the performance. After his embarassing night and career low light last year, Kanye definitely redeemed himself and ended the show on a high note. Click here to check out the lyrics to his new song “Runaway.”

And that’s one more year to add to the history books of the MTV VMAs. Taylor Swift’s and Kanye’s performances won’t soon be forgotten. But despite all the quality performances on the night, this year’s VMAs will go down as belonging to Lady Gaga. Taking home 8 Moonmen yourself will do that for ya. Apparently even if you’re wearing a dress made of meat.

Last night, Kanye dropped a fresh remix of his recent single “Power” on his blog and Twitter account–which has quickly become my favorite thing on Twitter by far. Make no mistake, this remix is REALLY remixed. Not only does he let Jay and Swizz do their thing on top of a hacked up version of the original “Power” beat, but after he throws down a beat that samples the classic track “The Power” by Snap! so that he can just keep on rappin’. His raps are on point here for sure, as he goes from referencing the infamous Van Gogh ear slicking to spitting a few lines in Islamic. It’s great to see ‘Ye back doing his thing!

Kanye West premiered a new song off of his upcoming album entitled “See Me Now.” The track features both Beyonce and Charlie Wilson, and is growing on me more and more with every listen. The raps are vintage Kanye, too. My personal fave: “I admit, my first watch was a Fossil. Now I’m in the Louvre, lookin for fossils.” HAHAHA! It’s hot, check it out!

Also, as a bonus, here’s the video from Kanye’s very first USTREAM that he did today. It’s really cool if you have about 25 minutes to spend. He talks a bit about his new album, which is now dropping in November, and then goes on to play part of a potential second single off of it. The whole video is fun and candid, which made Kanye open to answering a bunch of questions. I say check it out.

Since the now infamous Taylor Swift incident, Kanye West has been laying pretty low. Up until a couple of months ago, he’d been almost completely silent for 9 months, taking some time to lick his wounds from the fallout. But now, he’s back in a big way, which for those of us who enjoy Kanye doing what he does best — making GREAT hip-hop music — is  excellent news.

Apparently he’s releasing a brand new album sometime this fall. There’s no official date for the album yet, although it’s said to be September 14th and likely titled Good Ass Job (Ye confirmed that’s no longer the title on Twitter this morning). He dropped the first single off it, “Power,” online, and then performed it at the BET awards. Both indicated a triumphant return to form, especially for those who didn’t favor the style of his 808s and Heartbreak album.

News on the web today is that he rapped a bunch of tracks off of the album at the Facebook HQ (huh?), and they’ve made it to YouTube this morning. All the rhymes are rapped Acapella, so there are no beats, but Kanye does some serious spittin’. Also, it isn’t verified yet, but some sources close to him are claiming that Kanye has now started a Twitter account. It only has 2 Tweets so far, but they mention him attending meetings in Silicon Valley, which sounds about right with his performance at Facebook HQ. It’s pretty simple: @kanyewest.

** Another Update: Ahhh, he’s at it again. Continuing on the trend of inpromptu social media drop ins, Kanye decided to spit a few more rhymes for the folks at Twitter today. The major highlight, for me at least, had to be the undisputed return of Kanye West.  The ever-controversial musician has been hiding in some sort of cave for the last, oh, nine months or so. But for the first time since Swift-gate, he’s been popping up with small appearances and album release rumors.

First, it was the Internet leak of the first single off of his upcoming album, Good Ass Job, entitled, “Power,” which signaled a welcome return to Kanye’s original rap style. Then, West made a surprise appearance during Jay-Z’s Isle of Wight Festival set (the video of which you need to watch here, and I dare you to try and not to get chills when you hear over 100,000 people go nuts as they realize just exactly what is going on). And finally, last night West surfaced again with a triumphant return when he gave the first televised performance of  the song, “Power,” to open the 2010 BET Awards. Here’s the video, which shows him performing on a massive, erupting, fake volcano, with what is reportedly a giant chain of the Egyptian God, Horus, hanging around his neck. Whatever god complex he’s trying to communicate, I don’t care. Welcome back, Mr. West.

Prince receieved the lifetime achievement award last night, so as part of that honor, a number of artists took turns performing tribute covers of his classic songs. The best, without question, came from Janelle Monae with her rendition of “Let’s Go Crazy.” With any luck, this performance, along with her recently released debut album, Archandroid (a shoe-in to be one of 2010′s best albums), can get Monae some deserved exposure. Check out the performance, complete with crazy dance footwork, in the video below.

Speaking of crazy footwork, the former teen-idol turned bad-boy, Chris Brown, gave an unbelievable Michael Jackson tribute performance. Say what you want about how big of a trash bag the guy is, but man, can this kid dance. His moves are so MJ-like it’s jaw dropping. But, the mood changed by the end of the performance when Brown broke into tears during his performance of Michael’s classic, “Man in the Mirror.”  Something about turning a tribute performance into a self-serving, publicity stunt to recover a public image feels a little sour, and it’s quite possibly what was going on here. I have to say, the tears do seem genuine, but is he crying simply due to the realization that his career will never be what it once was? I’ll never know. You can draw your own conclusion.

Otherwise, Drake won the award for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist. He performed a couple tracks, first alone and then with Young Jeezy. It’s nothing special, but here it is if you feel the need to watch it.

1. Sara Bareilles’ “Love Song.” The title might say Love Song, but the lyrics say Trouble in Paradise. Sara’s not writing a love song for this guy until he gives her a good reason!

2. Wings’ “Silly Love Songs.” This really is a silly love song, but it does get stuck in your head. Stuck like love!

3. The J. Geils Band’s “Love Stinks.” Maybe you remember Adam Sandler’s version of this one from The Wedding Singer better than the original. Either way, sometimes the lyrics ring true.

4. Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You.” Although Dolly Parton wrote and first recorded this song, since The Bodyguard, Whitney’s version has been the go-to for copycats and pop culture references.

5. Kanye West’s “Love Lockdown.” Is this even a love song really? It’s got a great beat, whatever it is.
