I have good news! The MetroLyrics Blog has moved to a fancy new home.

This is a good thing for a number of reasons. First off, our new home just looks better. In fact, all of MetroLyrics has gone through a massive redesign, not just our blog, so you’ll defs be missing out if you don’t check it out. Second, we’re now putting a lot more effort into our blog, giving you guys more original content on music and lyrics on a daily basis. We’ll also be running cool contests where we give away free stuff, and nobody dislikes free stuff. Nobody.

So with all that in mind, come on over and see what’s going down at the new MetroLyrics Blog. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Showing that she can be both beautiful AND goofy, it’s a fitting vibe for the fun party song. In it she sings about finding a stranger in her bed, lawn flamingos in the pool and Barbies on the barbecue. Somehow Barbies don’t sound as appetizing as a burger…

This wacky guy has been called the best interviewer of all time by Canadian music fans AND the people he has interviewed. For example, when he interviewed Pharrell, he’s quoted as saying “This is one of the most impressive interviews I’ve ever experienced in my life. Seriously.” He thought it was SO impressive that he went on to help Nardwuar set up an interview with rap superstar Jay-Z. Drake, also a Nardwuar fan, did the same thing for him with Lil Wayne, and this interview was conducted two nights ago in Vancouver.

FYI: In this video Lil’ Wayne uses some NSFW language…obviously.

Remember this club banger from summer 2009? It’s Major Lazer’s “Pon De Floor”, which is distinctly used in Beyonce’s girl power – barely any manipulation at all. Makes sense, since Major Lazer’s Diplo is lending his production chops to her highly anticipated album, due out in June.

Odds are you’re familiar with the classic Neil Young song ‘Old Man’, from his best selling 1972 album ‘Harvest’. Well, nearly 40 years later, a band has been given the OK from ol’ Neil to sample the famous track.

Although sampling has become pretty standard practice in popular music, this is actually the first time that Neil has given ANYONE permission to use this sample, ever. So naturally, it’s kind of a big deal for the guys from Redlight King, an up-and-coming band from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

Watch the impressive lyric video below, and look for the debut album from Redlight King, Something For The Pain, coming this summer.

Even if Lady Gaga doesn’t entirely approve (see video opening), we can’t possibly ignore a well timed spoof from maybe our favorite song-spoof artist of all time. That’s right, Weird Al is back with a brand new spoof version of Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’, aptly titled ‘Perform This Way’. Because even Gaga shouldn’t take herself seriously all the time, right?

** UPDATE: According to Gaga’s rep, she has not even heard the song and is a “huge Weird Al fan”. She says she’s been too busy on tour to listen to it and has not prohibited Weird Al from using it for his parody. We hope these two become friends because they’re both totally ridiculous! We’d love to see a collabo…anyone?

Considered one of the best bands to come out of Canada, DFA1979 split up in 2006 and fans never expected to see the pair reunite…until now! Earlier this year, the dance-punk duo announced they were reconciling to play the prestigious Coachella festival, and people from all over are making the trek to Cali for their sure-to-be killer reunion!

OFWGKTA


At the moment, OFWGKTA is the acronym heard ‘round the world (it stands for Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All, respectively). If you’re not in the know about this buzzing rap group, then be sure to check them out at this year’s fest! Expect craziness, madness, and even utter terror from this young pack of wolves – members like Tyler the Creator, Hodgy Beats, and Domo Genesis are known to do almost anything to shock and awe their audience.

The unanimous vote at MetroLyrics is that Kelly Clarkson is the best pop artist to come out of American Idol (sorry Carrie Underwood!). Being the first ever winner of the show, she set the bar pretty high for all that came after her, and we’re so glad that she has a new album in the works due out in September. In a throwback to her “Slave 4 U” video, “Till the World Ends” features BritBrit and a crowd of her most attractive friends hanging out and gyrating at an underground “Apocalypse” party. You know the old song and dance – there’s a lot of sweat, Britney rocks a spiky leather jacket, and sprinklers erupt for a triumphant ending. The video offers a  glimpse into what might happen in the year 2012 – take a look for yourself and see if Brit and her entourage make it through the storm!
