To commemorate today’s American Thanksgiving, we thought we’d put together a little list of songs that give thanks. After all, that’s what Thanksgiving is about, right? Check out 5 tracks below that we thought you’d enjoy today.
5. Fall Out Boy – “Thnks fr th Mmrs”
While this track from pop-punk band Fall Out Boy technically says “thanks,” we’re afraid its heavy dose of sarcasm offsets any sincerity. But even though the band might not quite mean it, their fans were thanking them all the way to #11 on the Billboard Hot 100. Plus, the thing’s got a great video, featuring Kim Kardashian and… monkeys? You’ve gotta check it out.
4. Jay-Z – “Thank You”
When Jay-Z released his latest album The Blueprint III last year, it marked the 11th #1 album of Jay’s career. It was about time then that Jay said thanks to his fans, which they got on the first track of the album, aptly titled “Thank You.” If I had 11 #1 albums, “thanks” would be the first word out of my mouth every morning ;)
3. Dido – “Thank You”
Sharing the same title as our last entry, Dido’s “Thank You” was a mega-hit back in 2001, The song hit #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and marked Dido’s biggest hit to date. But the story of this song’s success is a unique one. In late 2000, Eminem’s mega-hit song “Stan” sampled Dido’s “Thank You.” Then, in early 2001, Dido’s song hit the radios, and would go on to see huge success, thanks in large part to Eminem’s earlier use of her song.
2. Led Zeppelin – “Thank You”
When we think good rock n’ roll, we think Led Zeppelin. Led Zeppelin’s “Thank You” is a classic, and marks the third song on the list with the same title. One of the first songs written by lead singer Robert Plant, “Thank You” was said to have been written for his wife at the time, Maureen. Have a listen to this beautiful, airy, rock classic.
1. Adam Sandler – “The Thanksgiving Song”
What would Thanksgiving be without “The Thanksgiving Song”? Adam Sandler first performed “The Thanksgiving Song during one of his stand-up comedy appearances, and it became an instant Thanksgiving favorite. Have a listen to it below. And a special thanks goes to YouTuber SuperAwesomeKoolGuy for the added visuals.
