Earlier this week, a video of Katy Perry performing for an upcoming episode of the popular TV show Sesame Street appeared on YouTube. In it, Katy performs a modified version of her hit song “Hot N’ Cold,” alongside longtime Sesame Street star Elmo. After being posted online, the show reportedly received a number of criticisms regarding the segment. According to reports, concerns were raised about Katy’s outfit, labeling it too revealing for a children’s show. As a result, show executives have now made the decision to pull the segment from the TV broadcast.
A press release from the Sesame Street company released today read, “In light of the feedback we’ve received on the Katy Perry music video which was released on YouTube only, we have decided we will not air the segment on the television broadcast of Sesame Street, which is aimed at preschoolers.”
The decision has sparked a lot of reaction from both sides of the debate.

This is no doubt unhealthy for children. The logic is they see it everywhere anyway so why not help the ratings but the true message that is reinforced here is that it’s appropriate at all and any time to dress inappropriate – just as adults in real life have to watch their language and not be promiscuous in front of children they must also act civilized and set moral examples that their kids know they will have to one day occasionally follow as well.

I have two daughters that would have loved to see this! The music and the colors are what made the video good for children’s imaginations. As for too much cleavage, I see more of that when I go to the grocery store to be honest. It was a good video and I don’t think it was at all inapproapriate for kids.

Yes it is to revealing and yes children do notice that kind of thing they may not completely understand it but they DO notice it. Back when Miley Cyrus was causing controversy over the stripper poll she used in her show my FIVE year old niece asked me if she could have a “Hannah dancing pole”!! kids are noticing more than you think especially at the age of FIVE!!!!

I don’t think people should react that way, because children wouldn’t know or notice that, one think about the show they want to see is the action plus the songs in Sesame Street..Those who actually react are adults who knows what it is because we already know what is being shown there.. so people are reacting base on their observation and not from the kids observation.. What if we ask children, to watch that and try to ask what have they notice in the video..?? perhaps in that way we can actually know from real children , I’m a mother as well of 4 toddlers and I know for sure that the kids will not react like what adults reaction did.

I can’t believe they decided not to air this specific segment. It was cute, the music would have been a BLAST for the kids and Katy and Elmo together were entertaining.

What is wrong with respecting our children and trying to preserve childhood and its innocence?
